Literary Worlds Inspire Young Readers and Writers

My students need a range of beloved age and level-appropriate series books, plus miscellaneous classroom supplies to motivate them and support their literacy growth.

My Students

I am so lucky to be working with such an amazing, diverse, driven group of second grade scholars. These students are in one of the lowest-income schools in the state (92% qualify for free and reduced lunch) and face many challenges both in and out of the classroom, but every day they rise to those challenges and excel as learners and community members.

My students are energetic, caring, and creative.

They support one another all day toward becoming their best selves and stretch toward their highest potentials. They are the next generation of doctors, teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and artists. While we do well with the resources we have, these students deserve all the same opportunities and tools that kids at much wealthier schools enjoy.

My Project

My young scholars are constantly inspired by the new worlds they discover in the books they read. Our classroom library is in need of a greater collection of the series and stories that encourage them to discover even more and write their own stories.

Book series like 'Mercy Watson' and 'Elephant and Piggie' capture my scholars' imaginations, encourage reading growth, and model for them the possibilities they can chase as authors.

Additionally, there are some invaluable classroom supplies built in to this project to help my students succeed across subjects, including math counters, magnetic base-ten blocks, a high-quality electric pencil sharpener (that is sorely needed), and laminating pouches to protect literacy and math games and activities.
