Help me give my students books and supplemental materials like Time for Kids, Scholastic magazine and an audio device to nurture their love of reading/listening.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students from Maine are multilingual refugees. This program will give my students the ability to retain and share their cultures while growing into their new one here in the United States. I want my students to have the opportunity to learn and thrive without sacrificing their cultural and personal individuality.
These great students work hard to fit in but need to be able to continue to enjoy their original cultures while learning about their new home.
They love to learn and are happy when they get to share stories from their homeland. They like reading and I would like to push them to continue to do so.
My Project
My students are in an ELL classroom. They are multilingual/multicultural students who are showing an interest in reading. The students in my classroom like to read about things they can relate to. I would like to have books that not only encompass their cultural identities and languages but ones that will excite them to continue reading in my classroom and at home.
My students need help developing strong English reading skills, so books that are in English and their native languages will encourage them to keep reading.
Being able to choose from the varied materials I am asking for will allow my students to find something they will like and be able to relate to. Helping students find interesting, yet challenging reading material is my goal. Reading is a fundamental skill that will help them in all areas of school and life. I know my students will enjoy the books and magazines I have requested!
