Literacy Under Construction

My students need reading and writing tools to build literacy across the content areas.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Barnes's classroom raised $528

My Students

A typical day in my classroom consists of balanced literacy across the content areas. My students are required to demonstrate mastery of reading and writing in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Physical Education and even field trips.

My students are highly energetic and very much engaged in the learning process.

Each day at school is an adventure, discovering and conquering new material. Unfortunately, 100% of my class receives free or reduced price lunch. This means that the socio-economic status of every single student is at or below the poverty level. This translates to those students having limited to no resources and/or opportunities to help them become proficient in their academic endeavors. In fact, our school's student population of 500 is at least 98% impoverished. These sad facts, however, do not hinder their motivation. All that is needed are the proper learning materials to ensure academic success.

My Project

With your help, our classroom Reading and Language Arts Centers will be equipped with high-quality writing resources that promote and support early literacy. I have requested write and wipe markers, lap board dry erasers, write and wipe answer boards, write and wipe pockets, read-along pointers, reading trackers and word spacers. These writing resources will greatly enrich my emergent readers' academic lives. They will be provided tons of hands-on opportunities to write the alphabet, words, phrases and sentences.

It is so important that kind people like you continue to support the educational system.

Your donations will ensure that my students will learn local, state, and national kindergarten skills in engaging and interactive ways. This project will definitely assist in retaining the information and building a strong foundation. My students and I thank you, in advance, for your consideration and continued support.
