This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to read an amazing book that you couldn't put down, and after you read it, you wanted to share it with a friend? Unfortunately, my students do not have this opportunity.

I work for a low socio-economic school serving 24 second grade students.

Half of them are readers and half are learning how to read. Although their reading level varies, they share a common love-- the enjoyment of good literature. They love picture books that captivate them with an interesting plot and colorful, bold illustrations. However, my classroom library doesn't have many of these books, and neither does the school library.

My Project

I have been borrowing books from the public library, and one day, my goal is to have a classroom library that consists of classic and modern children's literature. One of my favorite authors, which has also become my students' favorite, is Eric Carle. They can't get enough of his charming and creative stories full of vivid illustrations. Therefore, it would be my dream to start a library with a collection of Eric Carle books, such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Mr. Seahorse, and the Grouchy Ladybug.

I hope this library will inspire my current and future students to develop a lifelong love for reading.
