Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges in their lives. I teach at a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have a high number of English Language learners in my class. Many of my students enter below grade level.
Despite their challenges in life, school is their safe place.
They all love coming to school. It is a place where they can learn skills to be readers, writers, and mathematicians. A place where they can learn social and emotional skills. It is my job, as their teacher, to create an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, loved, and important.
My Project
An important part of the kindergarten classroom is literacy stations. It is a time for the students to independently practice their skills to be readers and writers. It is also the time the teacher meets with students for guided reading groups. The students need to be actively engaged in the literacy stations so the teacher can work with students.
These materials will be used to help my students to build their phonics skills.
They will practice tracing letters. They will use letters stamps to build words. They will use their letter sound knowledge to write missing letters in words. It will aid them in becoming better readers and writers.
