Hello! Thank you for considering my DonorsChoose project! I am an elementary Speech-Language Pathologist and I work with ages PREK - 5th grade! I believe in the power of picture books and incorporating literacy units to help increase my students language and communication.
People usually think speech therapy only corrects sounds, such as "R", however, hidden in my little room in this large elementary school are ways to help students access their daily curriculum through expanding their language and learning.
My students love thematic units monthly that helps them increase their background knowledge, understanding, vocabulary, and comprehension. I try to make their sessions come alive by incorporating sensory activities using playdough, readers theatre to make the pages come alive, and even arts and crafts to help them understand narrative concepts that they can take back and use in all areas of academics.
