Literacy Skills

My Students

My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years with a variety of developmental needs, ranging from communication, mobility, vision, and social skills. Their little bodies are not made for sitting in a chair for long periods of time.

We explore through play and by hands-on experiences.

It is hard to sit and listen, we need lots of visuals and materials to learn. Not only do we need lots of visuals and materials, we need a variety to keep things interesting.

The students I work with are in preschool special education program, where they may need help with academics, speech/language, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, or social skills. Every day is something different and we overcome many challenges. We celebrate every accomplishment no matter how big or small.

My Project

Literacy is an area that I would like to continue building materials for that are fresh and new for my students. The skills in my classroom vary from students working on naming letters to working on letter sounds.

This project will help build my literacy bank of activities in the classroom.

Not only did I choose literacy games that are already made, I also added materials to make literacy activities. This year especially, I have gone through a lot of hard laminate, Velcro, and card stock, as I make materials for my students to use.

It is important for my students to have materials that are fresh and new but also to have activities geared towards their learning levels. Literacy is an important content area that I hope to continue building on in my classroom.
