My Project
Our project centers around a student-led initiative in which my kids will use an iPad to mentor younger readers from neighboring elementary schools and local community centers. Students will design and lead weekly literacy sessions where they read aloud age-appropriate stories, guide vocabulary activities, and create interactive digital storybooks using literacy apps on the iPad.
The requested iPad will be the central tool for these literacy sessions.
Students will use them to access and present digital books, record read-aloud videos to share with younger readers who cannot attend in person, and create engaging literacy games and multimedia stories. The iPad will also be used to maintain a digital lending library, curated by the students, that includes their recorded stories and book recommendations for different reading levels.
This project aims to support literacy development in underserved communities, including students in lower-income elementary schools and after-school programs at local shelters and libraries. Our student leaders will extend their reach beyond the classroom by planning visits, delivering digital content, and fostering reading mentorships. These interactions help bridge educational gaps and promote a culture of reading outside the school setting.
