My Students
Do you remember first learning to read or looking at books as a child? If you were able to find books that were "at your level" you probably had a more positive outlook on reading.
My students are curious 5 and 6 year old kindergarten children.
They are having their first real experience at school and with learning to read. They come to a K-8 school in a small rural community in northern California.
Funding has seriously decreased the last few years in our state and it is preventing teachers from having the best materials for their students.
My Project
Your help with this project could inspire children to learn to read and help give them a love of books. Having these sets of leveled books will provide me with materials I can use in small groups throughout the year and also give children fun books to look through independently.
Reading is one of the most, if not the most important skill a person will learn as a child.
Being able to read opens up a world of opportunities for a child that will follow them throughout their life.
