Literacy & Math Exploration With Sphero Bolt Robots

Help me give my students Sphero Bolt Robots to integrate literacy and math skill by using the robots to learn programming.

My Students

My first-grade class is located in a rural part of the South Carolina. Seventy five percent of my students are living at or below poverty level. Many of my students have never been outside of our small community. My student rotate through their day in centers while I work with small group on reading, math and phonics. My students need Sphero Bolt Robots to use in centers. These robots will help reinforce math skills, reading skills when students program the robots to run through a maze and by learning how to work cooperatively in a group independently.

The Sphero Bold robots will be used by the students to solve math problems and to learn how to think independently without the teachers guidance.

The students have been introduced to Sphero Robots and we would love a few to have in our room to work with daily in centers. These robots will help my students to become better problem solvers and better thinkers. We would appreciate your help supporting our class with the Sphero Bolt Robots.

My Project

Student will learn to program the robots and run them through several task to solve learning problems. In Math, we will use the robot maze while solving math problems. The problems will be embedded in a mat on the floor. Students solve a math problem and program the robot to find the solutions to the problem. In literacy, student will run the robot to a series of pictures putting a story board together.

The robots will be used by the students to engage them in Programming to learn Literacy, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Students love working with Sphero Bolt. Students learn patience, coordination, and perseverance to solve problems. Programming motivates students to think. These two robots will give my student more chances to operate the robot. They will be used to learn, practice concepts and as an assessment in the classroom. The ways of using the robots are endless. Please help us earn some new robots for our classroom.
