Literacy Lovers

My Students

My school district services the largest population of children living in intergenerational poverty in Utah. These children face trauma, abuse, homelessness, and food insecurity. I teach English Language Arts to 25 1st and 25 2nd graders in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) class. DLI is a way to learn academic content while acquiring another language at the same time. These students receive math instruction in Spanish alongside learning to read and write in English.

A fun, safe, and healthy environment has never been more important than it is this year.

My Project

These materials will make a huge difference because they will be able to read books at their independent level and it will allow me to work with small groups targeting specific deficiencies.

In order to meet the needs of my diverse learners, I need materials to help them be independent during our Daily 5 Reading time.

Our current classroom library is limited and these books will make a huge difference in their choices and meet more of their interests. Creating lovers of reading and writing is the most important job in the world!
