My Project
We have a classroom library that is available for the students to engage with throughout our day. We have a dedicated part of our schedule that is solely for the students to sit and "read". The students in my classroom are beginning to understand book concepts such as the front/back of a book and the direction of reading. Our older students are also learning letter sounds to prepare for their transition to Kindergarten
Our classroom library is crucial to building a love for reading at an early age!
Having new books, and books that involve characters the students are interested in will help engage the students. When students are interested in the materials they are more likely to sustain their attention for longer periods of time and maintain the information.
In the classroom, we focus on one or two books a week to make sure we can deep dive into the learning. We do story walks, read the story and then retell the story with visuals and props. The stories each relate to the theme we are focusing on in the classroom for the week(s), and the addition of these books will further the students' learning.
