Literacy Learning for an inner city, special needs classroom!
I am a special education teacher who teaches English Literature to students with various disabilities such as learning disabilities, emotional/behavior disabilities, cognitive delay and autism from grades 9 to 12. The high school is a charter high school in a large inner city location.
My students really enjoy reading and literature, but lack a variety of classroom sets of books for all of the students to enjoy.
The books that I ask for are classic novels that are adapted at a lower reading level so my students can enjoy literature just as the students in the regular education classes do.
With your help, my students will enjoy the classic literature that is written in a lover level, but has that the high interest themes that high school students enjoy.
