My project needs ten Literacy Bags.

This project is fully funded

I am a third year second grade teacher in a rural, low socioeconomic area of North Carolina outside of Winston-Salem. 74% of the students in my school eat on a free or reduced lunch program. I get no start up money from the school; unfortunately I have no spare funds to help me with this project. I would like to be able to buy several teaching aids which can be used to enlighten and develop literacy in my classroom. The literacy bags will allow students to pair up and read together. My project needs ten Literacy Bags which contain a grade-appropriate book and manipulatives to help the student develop better comprehension skills. These bags contain items that will help the student identify with the characters in the book and help them process information written in the text. With ten literacy bags a class of twenty will be able to pair up and use these bags during our reading time thus helping with comprehension and reading development. Many students learn to read by interacting with others. These bags will make reading time fun and it will allow the students time to explore various ideas developed from the written text. Many of my students have no place at home where they can actually sit down and enjoy reading a good book. I hope to provide a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment in my classroom full of opportunities to develop good reading skills. Please help my students develop a love of reading. As I always say, If you can read, you can do anything! Any and all help on this project would be a true blessing! Thank you for your time.
