My Project

We are looking to add more graphic novels and manga featuring underrepresented identities to our classroom library. These books provide students with authentic, relatable stories that reflect their own diverse identities and empower students to see themselves as heroes in their literacy journeys. By engaging with characters who share their racial and cultural backgrounds as well as those who do not, students build self-esteem, empathy, and understanding of different perspectives. Additionally, the combination of words and visuals can enhance literacy skills, making reading accessible and enjoyable for all learners. These stories celebrate diversity and promote a rich, inclusive reading culture.
