Literacy in the Dance Classroom

Help me give my students access to books in the dance classroom! I want to encourage literacy in the performing arts space by creating a content related book corner for my students.

My Project

Help encourage students to explore reading within the dance space. This project will incorporate a collection of dance history books, biographies, and picture books for classroom use. These books highlight the diverse cultures, artists, and stories that have shaped the dance world. This will help prepare the students for their future as readers, writers, and thinkers.

The collection will include a range of reading levels from picture books that teach valuable dance lessons in a fun, engaging way, to more in-depth biographies and history texts for class projects.

By meeting students where they are in their reading journey, this library aims to spark curiosity and inspire reading beyond the English classroom.

I’ve started this project with a selection of books from a local used bookstore and am excited to keep growing this resource for our dance program.
