Literacy in Preschool

Help me give my students more literacy activities that focus on letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming, sequencing stories, and sorting categories.

My Students

My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years. There is a lot of movement. Their little bodies are not made for sitting in a chair for long periods of time.

We explore through play and by hands-on experiences.

It is hard to sit and listen, we need lots of visuals to learn. Not only do we need lots of visuals, we need different visuals to keep things interesting.

I work with preschool special education students. We learn in many different ways. Every day is something different and we overcome many challenges.

My Project

This year I have noticed that Literacy activities can be hard for my students. They need more hands on activities to engage with learning the letter names and sounds. My hope is to give them more activities that will help engage their learning.

Letter recognition and Letter sounds are the foundation to higher skills such as rhyming, blending words, and segmenting words.

It is important to have the foundation literacy skills since they will be used through out the student's school careers.

This project will provide materials for my students to engage in learning letters, letter sounds, help them sequence stories, and practice rhyming.
