Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are curious, creative, and exciting three-year-olds! For all of these children, this is their first schooling experience.
These very young learners are eager to learn and are so excited to come to school.
With the materials they will receive, they be able have access to stories they enjoy in the own comfort of their homes.
My Project
The use of these materials will help the children build upon their current language and vocabulary skills. At this young age, children enjoy hearing books with rhyme, repetitious words, and silly sounds. These books will be shared with families so that the children can enjoy their favorite books at home as well. With the children having access to these books at home, I can share with families activities and strategies to extend the story and encourage more discussion of the story at home. When children enjoy reading a favorite book, so much more can be done to expand learning and foundational literacy development. In a child-centered, play-based setting, the alpha bots manipulative will be used to explore literacy in a fun and authentic way. The Scholastic My Big World Subscription, will also encourage children to develop background knowledge. This magazine subscription provides amazing topics for the children to explore, also developing their vocabulary! The magazine can also be shared with families at home to support their child's learning and interest. My hope is to set the foundation for reading now to ensure that these children have the skills needed towards their future.
