Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

LHES is a large elementary school located near the center of the city. Our students come from diverse economic backgrounds and cultures. Many of our students come from single-parent homes. 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack.

My students are young children and need access to large printed books, whole and small group instruction, and a place that allows them to practice their skills.

Many of the children come from lower socioeconomic homes, but they are always ready to learn and show what they know. They are happy to be in school and try their best every single day.

My Project

I am selecting an easel and big books for my project. Currently, my classroom does not have an easel. I am propping big books up on two chairs.

Young learners need access to books in order for them to improve their reading skills.

The easel will allow students to follow along during shared reading. It will also be used during center time. The easel is magnetic and is equipped with lines on one side so that we can use it during interactive writing. It will really be a centerpiece in our classroom that will be used daily.

In addition to the easel, I selected some big books. The books are repetitive so they are easy for students to follow along with. They will help students to learn to read with intonation and fluency. We will be using them to learn concepts of print such as letter sounds, sight words, and punctuation.
