Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Didn't you feel wonderful whenever a magazine came to you as a child? Every issue brought you new adventures, new activities, new ideas, and new surprises. Be the one to help dozens of children receive weekly newsmagazines from Scholastic.

My students are in a Title I neighborhood elementary school where the population is 97% Hispanic, 70% English Language Learners, and 98% at poverty line or below.

Their parents and teachers are working very hard so that these children might break out of the cycle of poverty. The focus of our school is on having every student progress one grade level in reading each school year.

My Project

With one-year class subscriptions to Scholastic News, students in each grade level will share the joy of receiving a new magazine every week with new adventures, new activities, new ideas, and new surprises. While reading these magazines, the students' minds will be opened to new horizons in current events and, for some, in science and social studies, too. My students need sets of subscriptions to Scholastic News at four different levels and subscriptions to Let's Find Out in both Spanish and English to increase literacy.

For today's student, the key to improving literacy is oftentimes the ability to capture the student interest with contemporary editorial content, highly attractive graphics and stimulating activities.

Scholastic News offers all of these qualities, and, so, it promises to be of great assistance in our overall literacy campaign.
