My Students
Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written, and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.
I work in a school of 500 students and 70% of them go home to a language other than English.
95% of our students receive free lunch. Most of my students only speak English at school and are very limited to the tools they need to be successful in school. My students work hard to not only learn the English language but to be proficient in their own as well. They come from all around the world, and every single one of them has their own story.
My Project
This year, I would like to fill my classroom with new, hands-on, resources to build their reading and language foundation during literacy centers.
My students deserve an opportunity to learn in an environment that is conducive to their individual learning needs.

These reading comprehension materials will provide hands-on and interactive experience during centers every day. The literacy resources I chose for this project provide beneficial strategies to practice these skills in small groups using hands-on resources.
