This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a very diverse multi-cultural school. We are a Title I school with over 29 languages represented on our campus. Our school caters to a large group of refugee families as well. In my first grade class all of my students are bi-lingual, with four different languages represented. The neighborhood is a low income area with mostly families who rent houses, apartments, and trailers. They are however full of eager, creative learners. The children are as passionate about learning as I am about teaching them. As a district we are also trying hard to keep our students up to par with the ever changing world of technology.

My Project

My students participate in small group learning while I am focusing on leveled reading groups. We are in need of engaging, fun and educational games to increase their reading abilities. I have chosen games that are colorful, meaningful and likely to engage the least willing participants. With these tools I will be able to help more students succeed in reading by catering to diverse groups of students. I have students who are fluent readers and those still learning to blend sounds. These materials are a great way to focus each child on the skill they are lacking. Not to mention they love educational games and very seldom realize they are learning.
