This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching is my passion. I love watching the "lights go on" in my students. I have been in the profession over twenty years teaching both adults and children. After being out of the classroom for the last 7 years, I am like my students--a sponge yearning to soak up new knowledge and skills!
For the past 20 years, I have enjoyed teaching children and adults.
I have been a classroom teacher, a mentor teacher, a science advisor and a Director of Professional Development. In all of these capacities, my heart was always with the children. Seeing the excitement in their eyes when they learn a new concept is a feeling that cannot be described. I strive to provide my students with opportunities to learn and grow and as such I feel it is necessary to stay up to date on all of the latest teaching strategies and techniques.
My Project
One of the goals in my classroom and our school is to create environments that support the students' desire for lifelong learning. Literacy learning centers in the classroom are an excellent pathway to increase student motivation so that the children will take ownership for their learning. The students in my classroom are eager and highly motivated to learn. I am requesting funds to attend a Daily Five Literacy Conference where participants will learn strategies and techniques that will enhance student's literacy skills, math and science content and provide students with explorations that will lead to future research opportunities. In addition, this conference is specifically geared towards helping teachers make literacy centers work more efficiently and will enhance my teaching abilities and techniques.
This project is very important to me because I went into education to make an impact and difference in the lives of those I teach.
This workshop will help me to become a better teacher while providing my students with additional opportunities to excel in the classroom effectively using literacy centers in the classroom.
