Reading can take my students places! We are a first grade classroom in a high-poverty urban charter school where the majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch.
Students cannot all read aloud at the same time because it may distract the other students. Students also have a lack of hands-on learning in the classroom due to shortage of funds.
These whisper phones and centers will benefit my students by improving their literacy. They will be able to hear themselves read and therefore become better self-correctors. They will also be able to interact with words hands-on to better solidify their learning of the written language.
You will make it possible to turn my classroom into one that is excited about reading! First grade is a momentous year for reading and with your help, my students will excel!
