This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a rather large school serving approximately 775 students in grades K-6. We are a Title 1 school with more than 80% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch. We have a very diverse population. More than 50% of our students are English learners.
We are working hard to improve our scores and boost student engagement while enhancing the performance of our most needy students.
Our school district has recently purchased chrome books so that each student has their own device for daily use in the classroom.
My Project
The materials will allow my students to be able to practice spelling and sight words in a more interactive way. We will use these letters and boards to build words and write them quickly and repetitively to help solidify them to memory.
Workbook pages simply aren't enough we need some hands on materials to make the work more interesting and meaningful to students.
There are hundreds of sight words and complex blending combinations that 1st graders are expected to learn. While many students are still learning English this is a very difficult task. Manipulatives make them more accessible to students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
