I am a first year special education teacher and I am excited to begin my journey with my wonderful students. It is imperative that I provide my students with the resources necessary to meet their individual academic goals. My school is based in a low-income neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. One of my main goals as an educator is to provide students with an equal opportunity to learn while targeting their learning needs. In order for me to foster student engagement, motivation, and provide them with a meaningful learning experience, they need the necessary materials to do so.
My students are unique, brilliant, determined, and resilient.
They deserve the opportunity to receive the best education possible that would allow them to soar to greater heights.
My Project
The goal of this project is to promote literacy and mathematics in my classroom. My students present a great interest in reading, writing, and math. Over the past four months of the school year I have witnessed a great excitement the students show towards writing during their downtime. Providing them with writing materials will allow them to building on their strengths as they work on correct letter formation, letter recognition, and eventually writing words and sentences. I have also observed their interests in reading books and pointing to different illustrations in a text. A classroom rug will allow them to read books in the comfort of their classroom reading corner.
Providing my students with the necessary math tools will enable my students to work on counting, writing numbers in correct sequence, and utilizing different manipulatives to solve different mathematical operations.
My students show a burning desire to learn each day and I want to ensure that they will continue to expand on their present knowledge.
