My Project
Quality children's books that illustrate diversity, social/emotional awareness, humor, etc., whether they are read to a child or by a child, foster cognitive growth in a multitude of ways. Quality books in the classroom play a tremendous role in developing the skills children need to become independent readers, from more basic skills, such as letter recognition, to higher level comprehension and analytical skills, the impact of a high quality, age appropriate, diverse classroom library on student literacy skills is indisputable.
A pre-k classroom library that reflects the broader world and all that is in it: joy, sadness, cultures, colors, movement, seasons, and so very much more, becomes an ambassador for the wider world.
Pre-k students are just beginning their educational journey, so the authors, illustrators, concepts, facts, stories, etc. that we introduce to them play a crucial role in fostering not only their love of reading, but their understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.
Books that grab young student's attention, ignite their imagination, invoke their emotions, while introducing new information, concepts, and cultures are essential in not only supporting literacy skill development, but in supporting the development of empathetic, curious, knowledgable students.
