Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 22 eager first graders in an inner city TITLE I school. They are enthusiastic learners and nothing motivates them more than rewards such as creating art work. Imagine, I can motivate children to read by enticing them to create artwork!

Due to the current economic crisis, the school budget has been drastically cut. Unfortunately, one of the first parts of the budget to get cut is the arts. My students are highly motivated by rewards such as having the opportunity to create artwork just like their favorite author! However, we lack these resources.

My students are huge fans of Eric Carle! We're doing an author study about the writing and artwork of Eric Carle. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Drawing Activity Pad will allow students to construct stories and illustrations, just like one of their favorite authors. The pad includes fifty sheets of drawing paper, eight printed Eric Carle artwork sheets and fifteen stencils from his classic book. It can be used for various mediums including pencil, pen, crayon and marker.

With your generosity, my first graders will be motivated to read Eric Carle books and create art work and stories just like him! When students complete assignments to the best of their ability, I give them the opportunity to glitter their finished products. It is such an unbelievable motivator for them to do their best work. I do not have to "bribe" them to work with candy or a no homework pass. It's truly amazing how inspiring the opportunity to glitter their projects is. They love to see their glittered work on the bulletin board. Please help me make this dream a reality. When children become excited about reading, they become life long learners!
