My Students
"Reading is essential!" I make this statement to my students at least once a week and my students need to read literature from countries of the target language.
My students are forthright, urban adolescents who are at the critical stage of becoming powerful critical thinkers.
They are inquisitive and believe in being treated fairly. They are usually placed in a classroom with 30 of their peers and range from grade levels ninth to twelfth.
My Project
I am requesting Spanish/English dictionaries in order to increase understanding of vocabulary and word choice for variety in class assignments. Also, I would like to have enough copies of the novel "Like Water for Chocolate" to introduce my students to the food, tradition, and culture of Mexico.
Funding for this project is critical because students begin to think outside the box of their neighborhood, city, state or country to the global society that we live in.
Important character building topics are discussed while reading this novel (i.e., integrity). I believe that my students will benefit from reading this novel and will remember it for years to come.
