My Students
My students are learning to trust their creative instincts and develop critical thinking skills. Every day, we build more and more successes in the art room! I teach art to K-8 students in a wonderful, large urban school with limited resources.
This year, I am expanding my STEAM curriculum.
This entails more emphasis on engineering and design-driven art lessons such as one and two point perspective drawings, mandalas, and stop motion animation. The student population is around 750 students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds, culturally and geographically. My students speak 19 different languages!
My Project
This project will be an amazing opportunity to tie science learning in with my art curriculum. Using conductive materials, such as conductive thread, with batteries and lights, tied to a traditional sewing template project, I will be able to empower students to use different skills from different subjects. This is a cross curricular experience that my students will never forget!
These pillows will be completely student designed and student build, and they will last for a long time.
Students will learn how to sew using square plastic canvases, felt, sewing needles, and conductive thread. They will design and create their own stencils for this project using the Silhouette CAMEO 3, and will add finishing decorative touches with Posca paint markers.
