My Students
My classroom is a bustling learning environment with 24 young minds, ready to learn and grow. It is a diverse group of individuals that teach me more than I could ever teach them in a year. The class is ran with a mix of structure, love and a touch of magic. We dance, sing, laugh, read, write and question anything and everything we can. The children love to explore and experiment and always grow leaps and bounds during our very quick school year.
Each day I am blessed with smiling faces and eager eyes, waiting to see what it is that is in store for them.
I have always had a passion to teach Kindergarten, as it is the first step on a long road of learning and the enthusiasm is endless. Our day starts off with hugs and high fives, then we settle into a morning meeting, with a responsive classroom approach. Everyday we get to greet each other and bond before we jump into the curriculum. Our meetings are key to creating a safe and balanced learning environment.
My Project
I sampled an amazing close reading program this year that paired great literature with detailed plans for book comparisons, in-depth (movement based) vocabulary lessons, text specific Q and A's and a craft to end the week. I was only able to purchase the books for a few of the lessons and saw a huge difference in the students engagement and learning ,with this program.
We need the paired literature for our weekly Close Read program to further comprehension and literacy.
Our titles include A Bad Case of Stripes, A Tiger Cub Grows Up, Moon, National Geographic readers on various topics and many more. I believe in it enough to piece it all together over the years, but would love nothing more than to be able to go full speed ahead next year. With the book list fulfilled, I would be able to add a diverse literacy component to our classroom that touches on subjects ranging from Science and Social Studies to the human heart and our impact on those around us. Our school motto of C.A.R.E.S (Cooperation, Assertion, Respect, Empathy, and Self Control) is represented in the variety of texts and I, strongly, believe that owning these materials would have a huge impact on each student personal growth in their love of literature and exploration.
