My students need the books with CDs to broaden our listening center library. We need the book bins to help organize all of the listening center books and other classroom books we've received.
This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 27 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.
My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.
We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.
That's where DonorChoose comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.
My Project
My students come from homes where reading and school work do not take precedence. Taking care of younger siblings is their job. Having these books will help me expose them to even more literature. The books with CDs will help broaden our listening center library. The children love taking turns at the listening center. They love being able to listen to books that they normally wouldn't be able to read by themselves. After they listen to a story at the listening center, they have to write a little report; their favorite character, the setting, plot, and what they learned from the story. This helps them with their reading comprehension.
