This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so tired of teaching to the test! These new Common Core Standards are finally letting me teach reading and comprehension skills, not just test taking skills!
My school is located in between 2 separate housing projects.
As a result, the majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. My students come in with so little that it amazes me time and time again how eager and excited they are about learning! They really don't let their disadvantages get them down!
My Project
Because my students come in with deficits, I have to work hard to teach them. Now, with these fantastic new Common Core Standards, I have to work extra hard! I love these new standards, but, unfortunately, I do not have the materials to support my students. This is why I am requesting a Reading Skills Listening Activity Center to help support my teaching reading skills. With these materials, I can have students work on activities aligned to the new standards. They will be able to do small group listening activities to help build phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and most importantly, comprehension skills!
My students need a storage rack and reading skills listening activities to help struggling readers.
Thank you in advance for taking an interest in my classroom.
I am very excited to really dive into these new Common Core Standards and help close that achievement gap everyone has been talking about!
