My students need audio CD books, such as Magic Tree and Junie B. Jones, and they need a Minions movie.

My Students

I want my students to become strong readers and fluent readers. Part of the process of getting them there is helping them develop a love of reading and having the opportunity of hearing modeled fluent readers. Recorded books on the iPod touches will help with implementing these 2 actions.

My students do not have a lot of money.

My students receive free breakfast and many are on the free and reduced meal program. Many do not have a collection of books that they can have their parents read to them at home. Also, not all their parents have the time to sit with their children and read to them. I want my students to have the opportunity to hear books read to them. I can not do this all day, but the iPod touches filled with recorded books will allow the students to hear books read to them on their own, allow them to choose the books that interest them, and allow me to work with other students teaching them how to read at the same time. I made sure I asked for recorded books that they love like Kevin Henkes books and stories that I know they will love. This is all about fostering a love of reading and helping them hear what fluency looks like.

My Project

The recorded books will be transferred to the iPod touches received from my last donors choose project. The students will listen to the books during our reading block. This will allow them to hear what fluent readers sound like. If they follow along with a book they can start to learn what the words look like written down. The minion movie will be used at our class minion party earned for getting ten class castle coupons. The coupons are earned when the class as a whole are being respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. Our class theme is minions and through that I have sparked a renewed love of minions. They asked to have a minion party as their reward, so I want to bring in a short minion movie for them watch at the party.

The movie will motivate and encourage the class to continue to work hard and be respectful, responsible, and read to learn so they can receive more parties or other rewards.

The recorded books will give the students the opportunity to hear fluent readers and actually hear a story on their own when they cannot yet read on their own and I am working with a group of students, so I am not able to read to them at that time.
