My students need a boom box, a junction box, 2 headphones, 3 sets of read along books on CD, and a letter of the week chart to enhance their literacy skills in preschool.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My preschool students love to listen to books on CD because they like the sounds, music, and intonation that captures their attention. Reading along and listening to books in English will help them develop their language skills and their vocabulary as well.
I teach preschool in a high poverty school in San Fernando Valley, California.
My students are English learners. Most of them only speak their first language at home and practicing a variety of literacy skills at school gives them the opportunity to understand and speak English fluently. Listening to books enhances their phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and letter recognition which are vital at this young age.
My Project
Our classroom needs a boom box, 2 headphones, a junction box, and 3 sets of books on CD to create a listening center so all students can have the opportunity to go to that center and listen to their favorites stories on CD. Having a listening center in our class will increase my preschool students' language skills and will also instill the love of reading on them.
This project is very important for my students right now because they are getting ready to go to kindergarten and being fluent in English will facilitate their learning when they enter school in August.
If you support my students, you are not only helping them but you are also helping their families as well. Educating our young children right now will prepare them for future success in life! Thank you for considering my project.
