Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have an incoming class of 32 students in a high-needs, autism based school. Because of the size and demographics of our community we have a larger student population living in poverty than most Title 1 schools have in their enrollment. Sadly, however, because we have students on the other end of the economic scale we don't qualify for additional funding or assistance. Our students suffer in the long run.

As children leave the primary grades and become independent readers, parents read less and less to their children. They still need to hear fluent, expressive reading modeled, as a way to increase their reading. Besides that, they still love it!

With mp3 players, and a collection of different audio books my students can continue to enjoy hearing stories read. The equipment that I am requesting will allow them to choose what they listen to based on their interests and reading level, which will go farther in increasing their comprehension and fluency. I very carefully selected books that spanned reading levels, addressed different genre interests, and made sure to pick something for each gender.

Please help my kids branch out in their reading interest, cuddle up, and listen to a great story. Together you and I will sneak in the learning and they'll never know!
