My Students

My students have got grit. They have not been dealt the best hand in life but they attend school and are eager to learn. Most of my students live below the poverty line. Many are in temporary housing and struggle to meet basic needs at home. Yet, they still come to school each day with a smile.

I admire my students.

They endure everyday obstacles that I could never imagine as a child. Inside of my classroom, we are a community of learners. With the help of DonorsChoose, my students don't need to "stress" about the basics in the classroom. They can let their guard down a bit and absorb the school experience "just like any other kid."

My Project

As part of our integrated learning, students often need to watch videos, participate in EdPuzzles, learn from iReady lessons, watch KAHN academy videos, etc. All of these excellent resources provide video and audio reinforcements. In a classroom of 20+ students, it can be quite hectic when they are all watching videos aloud at different points. While all students were asked to bring in headphones, many are not financially able to. I have bought several headphones for them from the Dollar Tree which have all proven to be easily broken.

They can't learn if they can't hear the material.

I would love to give students a classroom set of headphones to fill the gaps for those who do not have their own.
