Dear Wonderful Friend,
I am a first grade teacher at Cherryville Elementary, a public school in Cherryville, NC. My students range in ages from 5 to 8. Cherryville Elementary is a wonderful school! I totally LOVE my job everyday and enjoy spending my days with my first graders. My students come to me with various ability levels and I am always looking for ways to get them "hooked" on reading!
The reason I am writing this proposal is because I would love to have a listening center set so my first graders could listen to books on tape. Since I already have books on tape and a cassette player that can be used with the listening center set, I only need the headphone sets and headset board. My students would then be able to utilize the materials that I have already purchased. The storage tubs would allow me a place to store the books and cassettes so my students could choose which book to listen to.
A listening center would allow my students another opportunity to enjoy reading as they listen to a story being read by a reader. Students would be able to follow along in the book as they hear the words read aloud. Having this center available would also enable my auditory and visual learners a perfect opportunity to use their learning styles. Not only would they be able to hear the words read in the books but they could also match words to print.
I know my first grade students would enjoy listening to the books on tape at this center. How do I know this? Well they absolutely LOVE when I use the tape player to play our weekly stories aloud for the class. They follow along in their own book as the story is read. Students can learn so much just by listening to stories read aloud to them! Truthfully, the listening center would be a wonderful addition to the literacy program in my classroom.
Thank you for reading my proposal. I hope you will consider funding it for my first graders!
