Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine trying to learn how to read in a language other than what you speak? That is the case for all of my students. They are all English Language Learners and most subject areas are abstract to them due to their lack of the English Language.

My students attend a Title I school where 75% or more students receive free lunch.

They live in an impoverished community. They don't have much at home, yet they come to school exited and ready to learn. Most of my students are English language learners, and for most this is their first schooling experience. They enjoy learning through hands-on activities that are fun and engaging. They also enjoy incorporating technology into their learning. They are just beginning to read; however, some students still need to develop their phonemic awareness and phonics to become proficient readers.

My Project

I am requesting phonemic awareness listening games to use in our listening center. Studies have shown that students that have a strong foundation in phonemic awareness are able to read better as they get older. It is crucial that my students develop their phonemic awareness in the primary grades. I am also requesting a phonics listening game to use in our listening center. These games will help my students make a connection between the sound of spoken English with the letter that correspond to that sound.

These invaluable resources are crucial because they will help my students develop their phonemic awareness and phonics.

Both these skills are essential in helping students become proficient reader. Please join me and help me nurture my students new found love for reading and help them become lifelong learners.
