Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In this Dual Language classroom, students are learning Spanish 90% of the day. Once per week, students will listen to books in the target language giving them students extra practice in a reading strategy. For example, they will practice pronunciation or intonation by listening to a higher-level book.

Through listening to stories children have the opportunity to hear speech patterns and rhythms that they might miss in print.

They can learn about voice and expression, which can help with their own speaking and articulation.

As students listen to favorite children's stories they will have the ability to listen to the story time and time again. At the same time, they can pause or stop the recording to practice pronunciation, ask questions, reflect, and share their thinking with others. Eventually, listening to recorded books will aid them in increasing their comprehension and acquiring a new language. Listening to stories is a powerful tool!
