Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very diverse background. We come together from all walks of life. Our school is a low poverty school, with many students only receiving academic support during school hours. Many of my students are English language learners. For some this is the first time they are being exposed to the English language. We are a kindergarten class and many students have had little to no experience with school or a structured learning environment.

My students come into the classroom knowing very little, and leave kindergarten with all the skills they need to be successful in school and life!

Kindergarten is the foundation where we learn everything from names and sounds of letters, to numbers and all that is in between.

My Project

By providing CD players and headphones I will be giving my students the opportunity to grow their love of learning.

Reading is a skill that is both developed and fostered.

To help students gain a love of reading, they have to have access to many different books.

Hearing fluent reading helps beginning readers grow. Providing my students access to books being read aloud will give them the opportunity to practice word tracking. It will also give them the chance to hear stories read aloud that I may not otherwise get to share with them.

Because of COVID and the remote learning opportunities we have faced sharing a love of reading has become hard. I would love to give my students access to many engaging books that they can independently access and explore.
