Some of my students are coming to school for the first time. I teach preschool, and I am their first impression of school! So it is my job to make sure that my classroom is full of excitement, engaging activities and enrichment that provides differentiated learning to meet all my students' needs.
My students are eager to learn, and come from high poverty areas.
My school is a Title One school, and 98% of the students receive free lunch. Providing literacy resources for my students will provide them an opportunity to grow and remain motivated in all subject matters. As an educator it is my job to provide the foundation they need to be successful in school.
Tell me I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.
~ Benjamin Franklin
My Project
My students will use this listening center as a place to enjoy stories. They will be able to listen to stories read fluently, and become aware of how he or she should be reading. My students will be able to listen to stories that they are not able to read on their own.
Providing a listening center will allow children an opportunity to hear their favorite books, learn new vocabulary words, act out parts of the story (role play) and enhance reading and writing skills.
Books on tape can be extremely motivating as they offer sound effects, music, and narrators that are fun for young children. A listening center is another type of reading experience for the students to enjoy and encourage reading.
