Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every child, starts every morning, with a smile, a high five, and a "good morning!" In our room, we start strong so we can learn more. Our education is important because most of our parents, didn't have the chance to finish their education. We are the future, it's our job to be the best we can be!

We are working hard to ensure that all of my students enter 3rd grade on reading level.

This is a challenge since most of my students came in below second grade in reading and math. As an added challenge, 75% of my students are learning English as their second language. Most of our families are immigrants, some have immigrated in the last few weeks or months. The other 25% of my students are African-American. All of my students receive free lunches.

My Project

We have computers for each child in my class. Unfortunately, we did not receive headphones for each computer. This means that while we can access online instruction for all subjects, we can't actually tailor instruction, or use it effectively. We also have two literacy programs that offer individual instruction, however without headphones we cannot offer a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning. We have about 70% English Language Learners, they need more time and more exposure to master phonics. I am requesting 30 individual headphones so that my students can use computer programs in the classroom without disturbing other students.

My students were born into tough situations, they were born on the wrong side of town, but with a quality education, they will be able to achieve anything they can dream.

Having access to individual learning, will get them an education they deserve.
