it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher serving a low income area, there are specific challenges that my students face both in and out of the classroom. These eager and excited young students come to school every day ready to learn and happy to explore. Unfortunately, situations beyond their control threaten their success on a daily basis.
Many of my students have a difficult time securing the basic supplies they'll need for daily use.
For this reason, my projects on DonorsChoose.org are of vital importance to my students. I believe that it is my duty to provide these exceptional young thinkers the best opportunities that I possibly can. My diverse group of dedicated and inquisitive students will get the chance they deserve with the help of these resources.
My Project
I am requesting a listening center along with some great books for students to listen to. My school is made up of 50% english language learners(ELLs) and my classroom is 88% ELLs. ELLs have a much more difficult time in school because they are both learning English and learning to read and write.
A listening center provides them with the opportunity to listen to native speakers and connect that speech to words on the page.
At this time, my students have few models because most of them are learning language themselves. This center will provide more opportunity for read aloud, and the fun and exciting books will get them pumped!
