I teach kindergarten to twenty students at a Title 1 school in rural Alabama. For most of my students, this is their first experience in a school setting. My students start out very low in school, but soar to high expectations. They need all of the resources available to help them reach their potential.
Most of my students grow up never having heard someone read them a story. This is just heartbreaking to me. I can remember listening to my dad read me story after story each night before I went to sleep. My students love to hear stories read to them. They can not take their eyes or ears away from the story they are listening to.
That is why I am asking for your help. With the school's assistance, we now have a listening center, but we only have 3 stories to go with it. My students love to go the Listening Center when we work in small groups, they just need some more stories. This is why I am asking for small group sets of books with the CDs to go with them. Each student in the group will have their own book to follow along with while listening to the story. The listening center helps to promote their reading comprehension skills as well as open up their world to experiences they would not have.
With your help, my students will soar even higher! They will enjoy reading even more then they already do. By exposing them to various reading experiences, we are enabling them to become life long learners!
