My Project
My students come from a diverse population. This group of sixth graders are eager to learn and are very appreciative. They are hard workers who really want to learn. They come from various economic backgrounds with the majority of my students living in or below poverty. All students in my classroom receive free breakfast, as well as free lunch daily.
When most people think about school supplies, earbuds are usually an item that is forgotten.
Earbuds are not considered "needs," they are considered "wants." As a result of their families economic backgrounds, our families struggle with providing basic needs. This is not for the lack of wanting to provide for their children, earbuds are just not as important as food, shelter and clothes.
You will not find a more grateful group of students anywhere! These students are appreciative of anything they receive. I feel that my students are just as deserving as any student in our county and due to their parents' economic situations, many times they are not given the same opportunity as others.
Our students have access to Chromebooks daily. Since our students have one-to-one accessibility, it is imperative that they use earbuds to help them concentrate and not distract others. As a teacher, technology is essential for getting my students prepared for their future. However, it can get pretty noisy and distracting without one small tool.
Having a way for students to keep up with these tools is also essential in a classroom. Shoe organizers and bags are one way that I hope to instill responsibility for them.
