My Students

Do you remember how much you loved to read as a child? My students are building that foundation of love for books every day, but they need more variety in the classroom!

My students attend a Title I school and are primarily Hispanic.

They are so amazing and each one has a story that makes them exactly who they are. This is my first year teaching and we have become a family. They are my babies and we make our classroom a home. My students know that when they come to school they have a safe and loving environment where they can finally be themselves. So often our young youth is forced to grow up prematurely due to issues at home and I want my students to embrace their childhood as long as possible!

My Project

In this project I have asked for donations to provide my class with Kevin Henkes read-along set. In this set, students will explore stories about love, family and friendship as they follow along while listening to these wonderful stories. The set includes 4 copies of the paper back books and CD for each set. My students will also receive another read-along set that includes 5 picture books that come with 4 paper back books and a read-along CD with each. These sets include books with beautiful eye catching illustrations and engaging plots that readers are sure to love. My students will be able to follow along in each of these books while listening to the CD read it word for word. Listening center truly helps to build reading confidence and fluency in students. I will be able to provide my students with comprehension to enrich this center. These materials will help my students build listening skills, reading fluency, comprehension and reading with appropriate pacing and expression.
