This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you hear a book on tape? Do you remember the sound effects? The narrators voice changing to reflect the characters? Do you remember how cool you thought it was? I want my students to experience that excitement of listening to books on tape.

My Students: I teach First grade in a public school.

I have a great group of First graders. They are excited about learning to read. Many of my students are at different reading levels. A listening center will provide those struggling readers the support they need.

My Project

Materials Needed: We'd like a new Listening Center. We need all new equipment. We are requesting a CD/Cassette boom box,a Listening Center organizer, and 5 wireless headphones. By providing the necessary equipment to our class, my students will: become better readers; their vocabulary will increase; their fluency will improve; and their love of reading will grow.

A Listening Center in a First Grade class is a must! The benefits of a Listening Center are numerous. A Listening Center provides a multi-sensory experience with books, it models fluent reading, it provides dramatic effects, the story comes to life with sound effects and music.
