Listening Center Supplies for Leaders!

My students need a variety of books (both fiction and nonfiction) and CDs to supplement the headphones and stereo that we already have for our listening center!

My second graders are incredibly excited about learning.

As we read stories they are constantly examining the illustrations and making observations that they are eager to share with one another. They are always asking questions, wondering why things work the way they do, or how things come about.

My Project

Our classroom is ready for centers! We have a multitude of books, word work activities and a CD player with headphones just waiting for eager ears to listen to reading. Unfortunately we don’t have any books on CD for the students to listen to! Providing books on CD for my wonderful readers would allow them to access text that are high-interest but above their independent reading level. The listening center will give my students exposure to another read aloud each day, helping grow their fluency, track print, and experience complex vocabulary.

Many of my students come from homes without books and few have family members who read to them at home.

I wish I could spend more time with each child reading independently with them! But with so many students in my room, small group instruction is the most efficient way to teach reading. The gift of a well-stocked listening center would provide the opportunity to listen to a book read aloud to them each and every day! This gift will impact students now and for years to come!
