My students need a listening center where the children can listen and see the words at their own pace. My ESOL students could really benefit from a listening center.

My Students
A typical day in my classroom begins with my 30 second graders gathering on our rug for a Read Aloud. I would love to see all of my students ready for third grade by being on or above grade level in Reading and Math. My biggest challenge in getting them there is our lack of supplies.
The K-8, public elementary school that my second grade students attend is in a low socioeconomic neighborhood.
The 28 multicultural children that I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum, in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other, and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates. My students are also a very "giving" group. Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
My Project
I envision this listening center being used by all of my students, but especially the ESOL students. This resource will really help my students see the words being read, and listen to inflections of the English language. This center will also help with fluency and intonation. Children love to be read to, and often times I am busy helping a child to read the books I have read to the entire class. With the help of cd's and books, these children can hear the story over and over. This is an amazing resource to have, and it will be put to great use!
This project is going to make an amazing difference to all of my students.
The listening center will allow the children to hear their favorite stories over and over again. Listening to people read is a great way to expose my ESOL students to the English language. The students in my classroom will be able to use their Reading time to listen and see the words in the story. I know this center is going to encourage my students' love of reading and learning!
